One thing to
clarify: there is no toilet at the campsite but we have a porta-poti in our
"camper". We didn’t sleep very well. The boom-boom of the disco kept
us awake a long time. I wash my hair in the shower, and that's ok, plenty of hot
water. Breakfast and we leave at 9 am. Pleasant toll highway, with many tunnels
and viaducts, light traffic and no truck. Jens drives first and then we change
about halfway. We go to a peninsula that is reminiscent of a spur (as the
cowboys had to prick their horses to make them run faster) on the boot that is
Italy. We arrive at Rodi Garganico, a steep seaside town. We want to go down to
the sea and take small narrow, twisted and steep streets. If someone comes in
front, I would have had a problem, but I don’t meet anyone. Arrived at the
bottom, we admire a beautiful beach but no camping. And this street is a “cul
de sac”, we have to turn around in this narrow street and, in addition,
cluttered with parked cars ... under a sign prohibiting parking. I manage it by
advancing and backing many times. And we go up the same street, narrow, twisted
and stiff. I push a sigh of relief when we are up. We leave the city (which is
oriented to the north, towards the sea) and go to the west. First campsite
found on internet: closed. Second: nonexistent. We start to get a little bit depressed,
and in addition it is 1:30 pm and we are hungry and hot. But moral goes up
when we find: 1. A beautiful beach. 2. A good little restaurant and 3. A nice
campsite, small and shady, just in front of the beach. We swim, go to the
restaurant for lunch and then settle down in the camping. Then rest for Jens
and blog for me, and bike ride to the nearby resort, not very beautiful, built
around the 60s and aging badly. Dinner at the boat, sorry, at the car and in
bed.
