Now I have to go
back in time: last year, in March, Jens finds the car we have now on Finn.no
(the Norwegian site where we find everything to buy). The guy who sells it is
called Jan and, coincidentally, lives in Ask, 4 km from us. The case is made
and Jan mentions that he is buying an apartment in Albania. So, this morning,
Jens phones him: they are in Saranda, a town some 60 km from here, on the
coast, to the south. We decide to meet each other. We leave at 11 am, after an
excellent swim. The beach is small pebbles and you do not have to walk long to
get water up to your neck. It makes us think of the beach in Almuñecar, and in
addition we find pieces of glass. Same scenario as the other days, the road
runs along the sea then goes inwards and arrives in a wide valley. We arrive in
Saranda around 1 pm The GPS finds the street, but the houses don’t have a
number, so we park the car and Jens phones Jan. Luckily, we are 5 minutes from
his building. All four, Jan, Kristina his wife, Jens and me, we find this coincidence
funny. The apartment is spacious, new and modern and has a beautiful sea view.
With them they have Kristina’s old mother who is 90 years old and a couple of
friends of Ask too, so everyone is from Askøy . We are going to lunch together
and another couple of friends (from Voss) join us, so we are 9
"Norwegian". Unexpected and nice meeting. We leave at around 4:30 pm
and go a little further south to the village of Ksamil, 20 minutes from
Saranda. There we find two campsites, not very attractive, neither of them. We
choose the one that is closest to the sea. It’s a campers parking, without
shade and rather primitive toilets, but for one night, it's OK. We hate so much
at lunch that our dinner is a cup of coffee and knekkebrød. Tomorrow we go to
Tirana, the capital, where Jens will work for a week. Nina sends us an SMS
asking us if we felt the earthquake around 4 pm. No, we didn’t feel anything at all.
