Going South Again by Car: 01.10.2019. Rovies (Ile de /Island of Evia)

Nuit tranquille et baignade avant le petit-déjeuner sur une plage déserte suivie d’une douche (froide). Hier soir nous n’avons pas osé mettre la table, plusieurs pancartes interdisaient le camping, donc nous voulions être discrets, mais ce matin nous la mettons pour le petit-déjeuner. Nous partons et la route monte dans la montagne au milieu d’arbres. D’en haut nous dominons une immense plaine cultivée. Nous redescendons et nous arrêtons boire un jus d’orange, ou plutôt une sorte d’orangina, dans un village … et en profitons pour aller aux toilettes. Dans cette vallée, la culture dominante est aussi le coton. Puis nous prenons un peu d’autoroute et arrivons à l’embarcadère du ferry pour l’ile d’Evvoia (ou Evia), la grand ile au nord d’Athènes. Nous ne nous pressions pas, Jens avait regardé l’horaire et il partait à 2 h. Nous arrivons au quai à Glifa, le port, à 1 h, pouvons embarquer tout de suite et le bateau part à 1 h. Après une demi-heure de traversée, nous arrivons sur cette grande ile. Une taverna à l’arrivée nous tente et nous nous asseyons pour déjeuner. Après 20 mn d’attente, nous repartons et allons manger nos tartines (une avec une « salade d’aubergines », miam, miam) sur le bord de la route, à l’ombre. Nous trouvons un camping mais, bien que la barrière soit ouverte, il parait vide et fermé. Nous continuons vers Rovies et voyons, de la route quelques camping-cars sur une plage. Nous y allons et arrivons au paradis : jolie plage, grands arbres qui font de l’ombre et quelques camping-cars très espacés. Nous demandons à un couple allemand dans un vieux bus aménagé, et ils nous disent qu’ils sont ici depuis vendredi, pas de problème. Nous nous installons, allons nous baigner et je fais le blog. Re-baignade vers 6 h et diner d’une salade de betteraves et d’œufs sur le plat sous les étoiles. Une voiture de police passe dans la soirée et nous dit bonjour, je crois qu’ils surveillent surtout pour les risques d’incendie.

Quiet night and swimming before breakfast on a deserted beach followed by a (cold) shower. Last night we didn’t set the table, several signs forbid camping, so we wanted to be discreet, but this morning we put it for breakfast. We leave and the road goes up in the mountain among trees. From above we overlook an immense cultivated plain. We go down again and we stop to drink an orange juice, or rather a kind of orangina, in a village ... and take the opportunity to go to the toilet. In this valley, the dominant culture is also cotton. Then we take a motorway and arrive at the ferry pier for the island of Evia, the large island north of Athens. We didn’t hurry, Jens had looked the schedule and the ferrywas leaving at 2 o'clock. We arrive at the pier in Glifa, the harbor, at 1 pm, can board immediately and the boat leaves at 1 am. After half an hour of crossing, we arrive on this big island. A taverna on arrival tempts us and we sit down for lunch. After 20 minutes of waiting, we leave and go eat our sandwiches (one with an "eggplant salad", yum, yum) on the side of the road, in the shade. We find a campsite but, although the barrier is open, it looks empty and closed. We continue to Rovies and see, from the road some campers on a beach. We go there and arrive in paradise: beautiful beach, large trees that make shade and some campers widely spaced. We ask a German couple in an old bus, and they tell us that they have been here since Friday, no problem. We settle down, go for a swim and I make the blog. Re-bathe at around 6 pm and for diner we have a salad of beetroots and fried eggs under the stars. A police car passes in the evening and says hello, I think they watch especially for fire risks.
