On y va.

A dog comes to
visit us, he looks nice but he scratches himself a lot and I don’t want to
catch fleas. He goes to another camper. Good swim, last for a while and we
leave at 10 am. We drive first in a wide valley, pass a (small) pass and arrive
in an even larger valley. Good road, we progress well. We stop for lunch in a
"restorant" at the edge of the road. The server doesn’t speak a word
of English, but a client can translate. They serve two traditional Albanian
dishes: a soup with meat and a pilaf rice, both accompanied by yoghurt. We take
one of each, it's good and cheap. Yogurt is more acid than our yogurts. And we
are still riding well on the four-lane road. I take pictures of several gas
stations that follow one another with the time I took the pictures, they are
really many and close to each other. Then Jens wants (again!) to take a
shortcut, a small road. Let's go. Luckily, in a village, I see the beautiful
tree with pink flowers which look like a fan, seen in Argostoli (Greece) and
Datça (Turkey). We go up, the road is in some places bad, but the car passes
well. We find the four-lane road then the highway that brings us to Tirana. The
GPS finds the street of the hotel where we will stay 6 days, there is no
camping near Tirana, but here too there are no numbers. But we drive past the
hotel and see it. It’s a sSmall hotel with twelve rooms and a welcoming and
chatty boss. A little rest and we walk to the center, 20-25 minutes walk.
Almost all the shops are open. A lot of people are walking on the streets or at
the café terraces. The main arteries of the city are lined with tall trees,
which must be nice when it is hot, but make the streets very dark in gray
weather, as it is the case now. We walk to see the Scanderbeg Square, the
monumental square of Tirana. Then we go back without losing our way and think
of going to dine at the restaurant next to the hotel, but it is closed. We
continue on our street and have dinner at a Tex-Mex restaurant! It's good but
it's hardly Mexican. Back to the hotel, a little reading and at 10:06 pm, it's
as if the house was being hit hard. It's an after-shock of Saturday's
earthquake. It's strong but short.
