Going South Again by Car: 04.10.2019 Vathy. Sifnos

Bonne matinée ensemble, nous allons acheter, avec l’aide de Raymonde, les outils et matériel nécessaire pour réparer une crevaison de vélo : quand nous avons roulé la porte ouverte en Albanie, en fait un sac à dos est tombé, et nous ne nous en sommes aperçus qu’il y a quelques jours. Et ce sac à dos contenait le nécessaire pour réparer une crevaison. Nous déjeunons ensemble puis partons pour Le Pirée où nous allons prendre le ferry rapide pour Sifnos à 16 h. Nous emportons le vélo de Catherine, elle prend le ferry demain et le récupèrera à Camares, le port d’arrivée à Sifnos. Bonne traversée, cela bouge un peu, mais nous restons dehors, à l’air frais et je n’ai pas le mal de mer. Le bateau change de cap une fois et Jens va demander pourquoi, il suit le trajet sur son téléphone. Un gars répond que c’est pour éviter des grandes vagues plus loin et que le ferry va passer entre deux iles. Bon. Mais une demi-heure plus tard, le ferry change encore et revient à son premier cap. Encore bon. Mais ce qui est bizarre, c’est qu’au lieu d’aller droit il fait des zigzags, voir photo. J’espère que ce n’est pas le capitaine qui a abusé de l’ouzo. Premier arrêt à Serifos et je reconnais bien le port et la « chora ». C’est le port où nous nous étions baignés avec Knut et Margrethe en septembre 2015 et où un Américain irascible avait menacé de nous dénoncer à la police du port. Et le lendemain, nous étions montés en bus à la « chora », vieux village blanc perché sur la montagne. Arrêt bref et nous repartons. Il fait nuit quand nous arrivons à Camares, sur Sifnos, nous attachons le vélo de Catherine à un poteau et continuons vers Vathy. Virginia, la propriétaire des studios que nous louons est là, elle nous donne la clé du nôtre et nous allons diner chez Anastasia. La famille et les amis arrivent qui demain, qui dimanche. Voilà, notre voyage de « descente » de Norvège à Sifnos s’est bien passé, la vieille voiture a bien marché et le blog prend une pause jusqu’au 15 octobre. A bientôt.

Good morning together, we walk to buy, with the help of Raymonde, the tools and equipment needed to repair a bike puncture: when we drove with the door open in Albania, in fact a backpack fell, and we just noticed it a few days ago. We take Catherine's bike, she takes the ferry tomorrow and will pick it up in Camares, the port of arrival in Sifnos. Good crossing, it moves a bit, but we stay outside, in the fresh air and I am not seasick. The boat changes course once and Jens asks why, he can follow the ferry’s direction on his phone. One guy answers that it is to avoid big waves further south and that the ferry will pass between two islands. Ok. But half an hour later, the ferry changes again and returns to its first course. Ok again. But what's odd is that instead of going straight he's zigzagging, see picture. I hope it’s not the captain who abused ouzo. First stop at Serifos and I recognize the port and the "chora". This is the harbor where we went swimming with Knut and Margrethe in September 2015 and where an irascible American threatened to report us to the port police. And the next day we went by bus to the "chora", an old white village perched on the mountain. Brief stop and we leave. It's dark when we arrive at Camares, on Sifnos, we tie Catherine's bike to a post and continue towards Vathy. Virginia, the owner of the studios we rent is here, she gives us the key to ours and we go for dinner at Anastasia's. Family and friends arrive tomorrow and Sunday. That's it, our south trip from Norway to Sifnos is over, the old car worked well, and the blog takes a break until October 15th. See you soon.
