Going South Again by Car: 13.09.2019. Perugia

Nous partons à 9 h 30 et la route de Lido di Dante à Perugia est agréable, une bonne nationale et peu de camions. La seule chose un peu surprenante est que de nombreuses sections sont en travaux et les quatre voies se transforment en deux, donc la vitesse est limitée … mais limitée à 40 km/h. Evidemment, personnes ne va à 40, je vais à 70 et les voitures derrière s’impatientent. Bon, mais nous roulons bien et le paysage change, de plate campagne à montagnes moyennes. Nous partageons, Jens conduit d’abord, à peu près la moitié et moi le reste. Arrivés à Perugia, le GPS a du mal à trouver l’adresse de Mauro et nous emmène trop haut. Jens cherche, à pied, la bonne adresse et revient me chercher. Il faut redescendre une toute petite rue et même prendre un sens interdit sur 50 m, mais ça va. Nous arrivons chez Mauro et Claudia juste pour le déjeuner, il est 13 h. Jens connait Mauro depuis de nombreuses année, il fabrique des sismomètres et Jens étant sismologue ils ont beaucoup de choses à discuter. Claudia nous a préparé un très bon déjeuner : anti-pasta de spaghettis d’épautre (spelt) aux courgettes et rôti de porc avec une sauce de pois chiches. Puis Jens, Mauro et Andrea (fils de Mauro et Claudia) vont au laboratoire discuter sismologie, je fais le blog puis me joins à Claidia et Alesia, leur fille. Toutes les trois, nous passons au lab puis allons voir le vieux centre historique de Perugia. Quelle ville pleine d’histoire, depuis les Etrusques jusqu’au temps moderne. J’apprends ce qu’est le « grifo » : C’est un animal mythique, moitié lion et moitié aigle qui figure sur les armes de la ville. Les hommes nous rejoignent et nous allons diner de bonnes pizze (pluriel de pizza). Nous rentrons et allons nous coucher à 21 h 45, et nous nous endormons vite. Encore une bonne soirée avec des amis italiens.

We leave at 9.30 and the road from Lido di Dante to Perugia is nice, a good national road and few trucks. The only thing a bit surprising is that many sections are under construction and the four lanes change in two, so the speed is limited ... but limited to 40 km / h. Obviously, people do,’t drive at 40, I drive at 70 and the cars behind get impatient. Ok, but we are driving well and the landscape is changing, from flat countryside to medium mountains. We share, Jens drives first, about half the way and I do the rest. Arrived in Perugia, the GPS has trouble finding Mauro’s address and takes us too high on the hill. Jens walks, looking for the right address and comes back for me. We have to go down a very small street and even take a one way street in the wrong direction, but only 50 m. but that's fine. We arrive at Mauro and Claudia just for lunch, it is 1 pm. Jens has known Mauro for many years, he manufactures seismometers and Jens being seismologist they have many things to discuss. Claudia prepared us a very good lunch: anti pasta of spelt spaghetti with zucchini, and roast pork with a chickpea sauce. Then Jens, Mauro and Andrea (Mauro and Claudia’s son who works in the firm) go to the laboratory to discuss seismology, I make the blog then join with Claudia and Alesia, their daughter. The three of us, we go to the lab and then go to see the old historic center of Perugia. What a city full of history, from the Etruscans to modern times. I learn what the "grifo" is: It is a mythical animal, half lion and half eagle that appears on the arms of the city. The men join us and we are going to have a good pizze dinner (plural of pizza). We go home and go to bed at 9:45 pm, and we fall asleep quickly. Another good evening with Italian friends.
