Going South Again by Car: 09.09.2019 Oberhofen-Cittiglio ( Italie/Italy)

Dernier petit-déjeuner et dernière photo tous les quatre puis nous partons. Comment remercier Fritz et Margret de leur gentillesse ? J’espère qu’ils viendront nous visiter une autre fois en Norvège. Nous faisons quelques courses au supermarché Migros et roulons vers les montagnes pour aller en Italie. Fritz et Jens ont regardé hier les cols qui sont ouverts, certains sont déjà fermés. La pluie d’hier est de la neige plus haut. Nous suivons la vallée et commençons à monter. Nous pouvons suivre la baisse de température, nous avons un thermomètre extérieur dans la voiture. Il faisait 15 ˚ au lac de Thun et plus nous montons, plus la température baisse. Il y a de la neige sur les côtés, mais heureusement le soleil brille et a bien fait fondre la neige sur la route. Le paysage est grandiose. Nous passons, après bien des lacets, le col de Grimsel, 2165 m puis redescendons dans une autre vallée et remontons avec encore plus de lacets vers le col de Nufenen. Avant d’arriver au col, nous nous arrêtons pour déjeuner et la vue est idyllique, une large vallée verte avec un petit village. Et nous continuons à monter, doucement, en deuxième, la voiture monte bien. Et nous voici à 2477 m au col de Nufenen, dans la neige, mais la route est sèche. Et commence la raide descente vers la vallée suivante. Et maintenant, nous sommes dans la partie de Suisse qui est italophone, tout est marqué en italien. Nous prenons l’autoroute vers Milano, mais en sortons assez rapidement et passons la frontière sans nous arrêter. Nous continuons vers le Lac Maggiore et passons le village de Cittiglio où Paolo et Catalina habitent, mais il est 15 h 30 et ils ne rentrent qu’à 17 30. Nous allons jusqu’au lac, au village de Laveno-Mombello, à 5 km de Cittiglio Nous sommes surpris de voir un grand ferry traverser le lac. Nous faisons quelques pas en mangeant une glace puis je m’installe dans la voiture pour faire le blog. Nous allons chez Paolo et Catalina à 18 h. Pour y arriver, le GPS nous fait passer par une rue qui fait 2 m de large. Nous hésitons mais un monsieur nous aide. Il replie d’abord les deux rétroviseurs et il nous guide de la main, puis il monte dans la voiture : il connait Paolo et c’est un peu plus loin. Nous avions rencontré Paolo et Catalina en Sardaigne, quand nous étions sur notre Maja, en mai 2015, eux étaient aussi sur leur voilier. Nous avions pris un café ensemble, parlé en espagnol, (notre seule langue commune, Catalina est du Chili) du Danemark et de Gilleleje ! Ils ont visité notre sommerhus l’été suivant et nous les visitons maintenant. Ils nous reçoivent très gentiment et nous dinons d’un bon diner italien. Une jeune femme du Guatemala est aussi ici, c’est une ancienne au-pair qui vit toujours chez eux et travaille dans une autre famille, donc tout le monde parle espagnol. Leur maison est une grande maison bourgeoise qu’ils ont bien modernisée. Bonne soirée avec ses nouveaux amis.

Last breakfast and last photo of the four of us, then we leave. How to thank Fritz and Margret for their kindness? I hope they will visit us again in Norway. We do some shopping at the supermarket Migros and drive towards the mountains to go to Italy. Fritz and Jens looked yesterday the passes that are open, some are already closed. The rain from yesterday is snow higher in the mountains. We follow the valley and start climbing. We can follow the temperature, we have an outdoor thermometer in the car. It was 15 ˚ at Lake Thun and the higher we go, the lower the temperature. There is snow on the sides, but fortunately the sun is shining and melting snow on the road. The landscape is grandiose. We pass, after many laces, the Col de Grimsel, 2165 m, the temperature is down to 5˚, then go down into another valley and go up again with even more laces to the Nufenen pass. Before arriving at the pass, we stop for lunch and the view is idyllic, a wide green valley with a small village. And we continue to climb slowly, on second gear, the car works well. And here we are at 2477 m at the Nufenen Pass, in the snow, but the road is dry. And then the steep descent starts to the next valley. And now we are in the part of Switzerland that is Italian speaking, everything is written in Italian. We take the highway to Milano, but leave rather quickly and cross the border without stopping. We continue to Lake Maggiore and pass the village of Cittiglio where Paolo and Catalina live, but it is 3:30 pm and they only come back from work at 5:30 pm. We go to the lake, at the village of Laveno-Mombello, at 5 km from Cittiglio. We are surprised to see a big ferry crossing the lake. We take a few steps while eating an ice cream and then I sit in the car to do the blog. We drive to Paolo and Catalina at 6 pm. To get there, the GPS takes us through a street that is 2 meters wide. We hesitate but a gentleman helps us. First he folds the two mirrors and guides us with his hand, then he gets into the car: he knows Paolo and it's a little further. We had met Paolo and Catalina in Sardinia, when we were on our Maja, in May 2015, they were on their sailboat too. We had a coffee together, we spoke in Spanish, (our only common language, Catalina is from Chile) about Denmark and Gilleleje! They visited our sommerhus the following summer and we are visiting them now. They receive us very kindly and we dine of a good Italian dinner. A young woman from Guatemala is here too, she was au pair before who still lives here and works with another family, so everyone speaks Spanish. Their house is a big square house that they have modernized well. Good evening with these new friends.
