Going South Again by Car: 28.09.2019 Près de/ Near Pogradec (Albanie/Albania)

Un collègue de Jens à l’institut vient nous voir à l’hôtel avec sa femme et ses deux petites filles à 9 h 30. Nous prenons un café ensemble et Jens et lui discutent un peu de la réorganisation du travail. Quand ils sont partis, nous faisons nos bagages et faisons quelques courses et partons. Bonne route, nous roulons bien et nous arrêtons au bord de la route pour le lunch et nous repartons. Nous roulons à peu près 20 mn quand un motard nous dépasse en klaxonnant, en nous criant plein de choses en albanais et en pointant le derrière de la voiture : nous avons roulé tout ce temps-là avec la grande porte de derrière ouverte !!! Apparemment nous n’avons rien perdu, nous nous apercevrons après que nous avons perdu quatre rouleaux tout neufs de papier-toilette. Si nos sacs de vêtements ou nos vélos ou la table et les chaises ou le porta-potti étaient tombés … Nous continuons vers le lac Ohrid, un lac bien connu en Albanie, très profond, très ancien et à la faune et la flore particulières. Nous arrivons à la ville de Pogradec sur les bords du lac, stationnons la voiture et faisons une promenade le long du lac. Nous continuons un peu vers l’est et trouvons un camping agréable au bord du lac aussi. Nous installons notre « van » et allons marcher le long du lac et, sans nous en rendre compte, nous arrivons presqu’à la frontière entre l’Albanie et la Macédoine du Nord. Le lac est un tiers albanais et deux tiers macédonien. Nous dinons au restaurant du camping et ce sont les deux enfants du propriétaire qui servent à table, la fille a 15 ans et le garçon 12, peut-être et ils parlent bien anglais. Nous prenons un « koran fish », poisson qui n’existe que dans ce lac. Ils n’ont pas de dessert mais nous en bricolent un avec du yaourt, du miel et des noix, bien bon.

One of Jens’colleagues at the institute comes to see us at the hotel with his wife and two little daughters at 9:30 am. We have a coffee together and Jens and he talk a little about the reorganization of the work. When they are gone, we pack, do some shopping and leave. Good road, we drive well and we stop at the road side for lunch and start again. We drive about 20 minutes when a biker who is passing us honks, shouts many things in Albanian and is pointing at the back of the car: we drove all that time with the big back door open! Apparently we have not lost anything, we will find later that we have lost four brand new rolls of toilet paper. If our bags of clothes or our bikes or the table and chairs or the porta-potti had fallen ... We continue to Lake Ohrid, a well-known lake in Albania, very deep, very old and with special flora and fauna. We arrive at the town of Pogradec on the shores of the lake, park the car and take a walk along the lake. We continue a little to the east and find a nice campsite by the lake too. We set up our "van" and walk along the lake and, without realizing it, we arrive almost at the border between Albania and North Macedonia. The lake is one-third Albanian and two-thirds Macedonian. We dine at the campsite restaurant and it is the owner’s two children who serve at the table, the girl is 15 years old and the boy 12 maybe, and they speak good English. We take a "koran fish", a fish that only exists in this lake. They do not have dessert but they make one for us, yogurt, honey and nuts, very good.
