Going South Again by Car: 12.11.2019 Hirtshals

Tout le monde est debout de bonne heure, Einar a demandé à 6 h si on était toujours ici. A 7 h il vient me voir dans mon lit, où il est le bienvenu, Jens est dans la salle de bain. Merete part plus tard aujourd’hui, normalement elle part top. Bon petit-déjeuner avec deux confitures faites maison (prunes et pommes) et « havregrøt » (porridge) pour Einar. J’accompagne ensuite Merete et Einar à son « barnehage » (école maternelle) qui me fait penser à Ask menighetsbarnehage où j’ai travaillé 17 ans, petit (25 enfants), dans une vieille maison … Nous disons au revoir et merci mille fois à Merete qui part travailler à Kolding, la grande ville voisine. C’était un plaisir de reprendre contact et elle et Einar sont les bienvenus en Norvège ou à la sommerhus à Udsholt. Nous restons travailler et partons en laissant la clé dans un pot de fleur. Il pleut, il fait bien gris mais nous sommes contents de revoir la mer à Kolding qui est un grand port au fond d’un fjord. Notre premier but aujourd’hui est Sørvad, le village d’où venait la famille de Trine, la maman de Jens. La tante de Jens qui y habitait est morte en 2014, mais nous y connaissons encore sa bonne amie et voisine Astrid. Jens lui a téléphoné et elle est contente de notre visite, elle vit seule avec son chat, son mari est mort en avril cette année. Nous l’emmenons au restaurant à Holstebro, la ville à 12 km de Sørvad. Bon déjeuner en se rappelant de vieux souvenirs, elle se rappelle mieux que nous de certaines choses et elle a 82 ans. Nous la ramenons, buvons un café chez elle et reprenons la route, la dernière étape, vers Hirtshals où nous prenons le ferry direct à Bergen. Il fait nuit mais il y a peu de circulation. Nous arrivons à Hirtshals à 18 h 40 et allons au quai de la compagnie Color Line … qui n’est pas la bonne, nous voyageons avec Fjord Line. Nous changeons de quai, embarquons à 19 h 10 et le bateau part à l’heure, à 20 h. Léger diner à la cafétéria, le bateau bouge un peu mais ça va, puis au lit. Quand je me réveille vers 2 h du matin, les vagues sont plus petites et c’est plus calme.

Everyone is up early, Einar asked at 6 pm if we were still here. At 7 am he comes to see me in our bed, where he is welcome, Jens is in the bathroom. Merete leaves a little later today, normally she leaves early. Good breakfast with two homemade jams (plums and apples) and "havregrøt" (porridge) for Einar. I then accompany Merete and Einar to his "barnehage" (kindergarten) that reminds me of Ask menighetsbarnehage where I worked 17 years, small (25 children), in an old house ... We say goodbye and thanks a thousand times to Merete who goes to work in Kolding, the big city nearby. It was a pleasure to get back in touch and she and Einar are welcome in Norway or at the sommerhus in Udsholt. We stay working and leave leaving the key in a flower pot. It's raining, it's very gray, but we're happy to see the sea again at Kolding, which is a big harbor at the bottom of a fjord. Our first goal today is Sørvad, the village where Trine’s family, Jens' mother, came from. Jens’ aunt who lived there died in 2014, but we still know her good friend and neighbor Astrid. Jens phoned her and she is happy with our visit, she lives alone with her cat, her husband is dead in April this year. We take her to a restaurant in Holstebro, the town 12 km from Sørvad. Good lunch remembering old memories, she remembers some things better than us and she is 82 years old. We bring her back, drink a coffee at her house and take the road again, the last leg, to Hirtshals where we take the direct ferry to Bergen. It is dark but there is little traffic. We arrive at Hirtshals at 6:40 pm and go to the dock of the company Color Line ... which is not the right one, we travel with Fjord Line. We change wharf, board at 7:10 pm and the boat departs on time, at 8 pm. Light dinner in the cafeteria, the boat moves a little but it’s OK, then in bed. When I wake up around 2 am, the waves are smaller and it’s much quieter.
