20.10.2019 Ormos Ay Nikolaos (Ithaca)
Dimanche 20 octobre
2019
Encore beau, chaud
casse.
Sunday, October
20, 2019
Still beautiful,
warm and calm, it’s incredible, October 20th. A young blonde woman goes to her
little boat to fish, she is the village teacher. She tells us that she has six
students in all. We leave for the island of Ithaca, Odysseus’ island. We try to
sail an hour, but we really don’t move, so we put on the engine. I start the
blog en route. The sail cover is all damaged and the zipper at the bottom
broken. I sew with big stiches to close it down, it prevents it from hanging.
We arrive at Ormos Ay Nikolaos, northeast of Ithaca, a little north of Frikes.
Two yachts are anchored, people swim and children play. We also swim, have
lunch, it is two o'clock and shortly after, the two sailboats leave, one after
the other. We have this beautiful bay for ourselves. We go to land and walk on
a stony track. An old couple who lives here greets us and the old gentleman
tries to talk to us with a mixture of Greek and Italian. A car goes down and
two men visit the old couple. It's an old “normal” car, not a 4x4, and I wonder
how it will go up. We walk up and hope to see the port of Frikes, but no, it's
still far. Back to Hera II, dinner, reading and at some point, a fast ferry
that passes farther makes us big waves. Hera II is parallel and receives them
on the side. She begins to roll very hard and long. Fortunately, we manage to
grab everything that is bumped from one side to the other, nothing is broken.
