Going South Again by Car: 22.10.2019 Lixouri. Céphalonie/Cephalonia

Encore beau, chaud et calme! Incroyable. Après le petit-déjeuner et une baignade du bateau, nous partons, contournons la pointe nord-ouest de Céphalonie et longeons la côte ouest vers le sud. Pas un souffle, donc au moteur. La côte ouest de Céphalonie est inhospitalière, grandes falaises et pas de port. Il fait si chaud que nous naviguons en maillote de bain. A mi-chemin, nous ancrons dans une baie, en fait un creux ouvert vers l’ouest et donc exposé à la houle mais où on voit une plage et des maisons de vacances. Nous pensons nous baigner et déjeuner ici. La baignade, on la fait, mais nous ne restons pas déjeuner, Hera II roule beaucoup. Elle roule un peu en naviguant mais pas tant. Déjeuner en route, puis nous tournons vers l’est « en bas » de Céphalonie et remontons dans le grand « fjord » qui va vers le port de Lixouri à gauche et Argostoli à droite. Nous décidons d’aller à Lixouri, nous n’y sommes jamais allés. Mais avant, second arrêt baignade en face d’une jolie plage. Nous ancrons, nous baignons et repartons Nous arrivons dans le port de Lixouri et il n’y a qu’un voilier au quai, nous pouvons donc nous mettre le long du quai. Il est 16 h 30 et la ville (3500 habitants) parait bien calme. Mais elle se réveille un peu plus tard, les magasins rouvrent et les rues deviennent plus animées. Tour en vélo le long du fjord vers le nord et un peu en ville. Une grande place ombragée est agréable. Nous dinons en ville à une taverna où tous les autres clients sont grecs et les chats bien mignons.

Still beautiful, warm and calm! Unbelievable. After breakfast and a swim from the boat, we leave, skirting the northwestern tip of Cephalonia and skirting the west coast to the south. Not a breath, so we motor. The west coast of Cephalonia is inhospitable, big cliffs and no harbor. It's so hot that we sail in a bathing suit. Halfway, we anchor in a bay, in fact a hollow open to the west and therefore exposed to the swell but where we see a beach and holiday homes. We are thinking of bathing and having lunch here. Bathing, we do, but we don’t stay to lunch, Hera II rolls a lot. She rolls a little while sailing but not so much. Lunch en route, then we turn to the east "at the bottom" of Cephalonia and go up to the big "fjord" which goes to the port of Lixouri on the left and Argostoli on the right. We decide to go to Lixouri, we never went there. But before, second stop to go swimming in front of a pretty beach. We anchor, we swim and leave. We arrive in the port of Lixouri and there is only one sailboat at the dock, so we can put ourselves along the wharf. It is 4.30 pm and the city (3500 inhabitants) seems very calm. But it wakes up a little later, stores reopen and the streets become more animated. Bike ride along the fjord to the north and a bit in town. A large shaded square is nice. We dine in town at a taverna where all the other guests are Greek and the cats are cute.
